tape to tape ‘pure & easy’

Release Date: August 13th 2010

Following on from the success of their „Devil Made Me Do It“ E.P. tape to tape have delved into French House territory and delivered another slice of fuzzy analogue goodness. Eschewing the faster tempo’s of previous releases the boys have slowed things down for summer and conjured up a gorgeous piece of mid tempo disco redolent of Bangalter at his Roulé best. Think Space 1998 and you’re halfway there. Sun baked and anthemic, these 6 minutes will soundtrack many a lost night. Pure and easy… the note is eternal.

This release is backed by two alternative mixes by Black Strobe and fellow Relish artist JR Seaton.

tape to tape have also just finished remixing Black Strobe’s seminal electro track „Me and Madonna“ taking this dancefloor classic and turning it into a spaced out electronic disco bomb.

“pure & easy” is already supported by Jim Stanton (Horse Meat Disco), Jacques Renault (Runaway), Eric Duncan (Still Going/Rub’n'Tug/NY), Brodinski and Streetlife DJs and many more.

Headman ‘Fluctuation’ Single

Release Date: July 16th 2010

Fluctuation is the 3rd single taken from Headman’s latest album 1923. It takes you back to Headman’s Manhead roots; pushing the sounds of early 80s club music deeper underground than ever. The remixes come courtesy of Tim Goldsworthy, under his moniker Thee Loving Hand and the Italian newcomer to Gomma: Cécile.

New Zombie gets the treatment from Adelaide trio The Swiss – a live disco band who’s existence is based on entirely on favour and good times rather than the Cobra Snake and fitted caps. They deliver a, somehow, 90s sounding disco banger!

Last but not least the Edmonton, CA based Shout Out Out Out Out remix Assassins. The original track from the album sounds balearic/cosmic, but they take it somewhere else completely.

Tracklist digital:

Fluctuation Original
Fluctuation (Cécil Remix)
Fluctuation (Thee Loving Hand Remix Edit By Tim Goldsworthy)
New Zombie (The Swiss Fresh FM Mix)
Assassin (Shout Out Out Out Out Remix)

Tracklist Vinyl:

JR Seaton ‘She Had A Wing’ EP

Release Date: June 25th 2010

An exquisite debut release on Relish for JR Seaton after his well received Vertigo/Yphsilon EP on Nocturnes last year. On first listen this is undoubtedly rooted somewhere between the Chicago House and Kosmiche traditions. As it unfurls it takes you into a space where afro-beat, punk-funk and disco are pummeled by motoric rhythms and breathtaking arcs of melody. This is an EP that proves there should be no escaping the interconnectedness of musical experience. Refreshingly ambitious – do not miss!

London born and Berlin based JR Seaton has run a wealth of special parties over the last decade – from his teens at the fledgling Cafe 1001 in the early 00s where he spun a ludicrously wide range of music, to his current Nukk Nukk parties alongside Milo Smee (of Chrome Hoof and Dissident notoriety) in Berlin, he has found an extraordinary range of support that spans the Hardwax crew in Berlin to London disco maestros such as Ali Renault.

Headman ‘1923′ Out Now!

1923.jpg

Release Date: May 3rd 2010

Headman returns with a brand new astonishing album: 1923. After releasing 3 albums on Gomma, he returns with this new record on his own label Relish. This marks the start of a new era for Robi Insinna, the man behind the Headman guise.

It’s an incredible work of art – ten tracks of pure gold that show and highlight the rich talent at work here. The forward-thinking, evolving sound of a true artist. It bridges the different sonic worlds Robi has created for himself over the years. From Headman and Manhead over the last decade this Swiss-born musical genius has been at the forefront of dance music. Equally at home in techno clubs as he is in disco environments, Robi has developed his repertoire and this album is a new high watermark for his talents. Everything from techno to post-punk, disco and pop are in some way evident in these ten recordings, which holds together as a body of work unlike anything he has done before.

A stellar selection of guests include the one and only Dieter Meier of Yello, Steve Mason of Beta Band and King Biscuit Time, Katrina Noorbergen of Australia’s Cassette Kids and Tara who worked with Robi on Cath Me, It Rough, and On and On. The next single to drop will be Private Show, set for release on 19th April in the UK.

From his remixes for Franz Ferdinand, The Gossip, Roxy Music, Zombie Nation and Inflagranti, to his worldwide popularity as a DJ, Headman continues to tour his diverse talents across the world spanning from hard hitting dancefloor tracks to slowed down disco; skilfully winding you through all that falls between.

Robi is also heavily involved in the artwork and visual elements of Headman and the Relish label. He designs all artwork and plans are afoot to feature this within a Relish exhibition. Working between Zurich and Berlin, Robi has plans for pop up shops to accompany his album release, showing his art, prints and shirts. Look out for more news soon.

who have come through with a two part remix of the track as well as a
remix from Gomma’s Telonius. The single will be available both on vinyl

Relish Compilation ll is the second installment in the series with new material, remixes and debuting some new talent recently signed to the label. Robi Insinna a.k.a. Headman/Manhead is the founder of RELISH, which is known as being at the forefront of the nu-disco movement alongside, friends and contemporaries, DFA Records, Output Recordings and Kitsune.

Founded in 2001, Relish Recordings first release was Manhead, whose sound predated the current Cosmic disco revival by years, and maintained this high standard, while expanding with new artists to show Robi’s diverse taste, most of which were on the first compilation.

Formed over a mutual appreciation of disco beats, handclaps, cowbells and vocoders these two DJs have rocked floors over the UK and Europe for the last two years, while also remixing the likes of Filthy Dukes, Headman and Tronik Youth.
The classic Units track “High Pressure Days” is one of synthpunk’s greatest anthems while at the same time becoming a dancefloor classic among dj’s like Danielle Baldelli. 30 years later, Relish Recordings proudly re-released the track on 12”. The Headman and Rory Phillips remixes are featured on this compilation.
