JR Seaton

“Boundaries – be they real ones between nations, or imaginary ones between musical styles – I find difficult to take seriously despite the impact they have on peoples lives and understanding of art and music. I like stuff that I can see, touch or engage with – synthesizers, records and forceful expressions of anger or pain. I like dust, mess and mistakes.”

Raised between a north London squat and a remote corner of Andalusia, JR Seaton began to play instruments at a very young age. Trained in Spanish guitar by gitanos, he went on to play in an assortment of bands before, at the age of 13, he heard Larry Heard’s Can U Feel It. This awakened in him an understanding that good music – no matter what form it takes – has a common emotional power.

He went on to run one of the first parties to be held at Cafe 1001 in London through 2001/02. These parties sat post punk and disco alongside techno and jazz. Seaton’s dj sets would run to 7 or 8 hours in clubs from Warsaw to southern Spain. In 2004 he scored the soundtrack for a performance by the renowned French contemporary dancer Charlotte Deleague that was performed in Rome and Paris.

He currently lives in Berlin and runs the Nukk Nukk parties.
