The latest single from Headman sees Insinna offer up the wonderful ‘Turning’, an 80’s tinged machine-funk vocal outing that comes on like a modern love child of Human League, New Order and Grace Jones.
Scott’s studio is now residing in Andrew Weatherall’s legendary East London bunker. He has recently remixed Virgo Four and the upcoming Headman single Turning whilst his original productions have heralded releases on Astrolab France (featuring remixes from Mark E), Remains The Same on Andy Blake’s World Unknown label and the killer track A Life With Silence which Weatherall will release on his new Birdscarer imprint as well as including it on his upcoming mix CD for Ministry Of Sound.

On Relish Scott delivers a 3 track E.P. entitled Light Sleeper, still following the same path of slow, machine funk driven techno.

The E.P. starts off with Centerville, a dubbed out kosmische funk track. Next comes Convenient Injunction, which is slower acid meets Detroit. On Paraphrase Mine, Scott keeps it funky and adds a murderous bass which drives and drives and drives…

The first remix comes from studio neighbour Timothy J. Fairplay who was part of the legendary band Battant and now engineers for the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Death In Vegas and Daniel Avery (Stopmakingme). His new production Xylophone will appear on Astrolab this Spring.

Finally, label boss Robi Insinnna / Headman contributes one of his unique reworks. Keeping the orginal spirit of the track, he adds his signature combination of melody and groove for the floors.

The release already recived great support from Daddy G (Massive Attack), Erol Alkan, in Flagranti, Hardway Bros, Joakim, Horse Meet Disco, Daniel Avery, Chloé, Matt Walsh, Disco Bloodbath, Felix Dickinson, Remain and many more…

‘Sleeper’ continues with outright warmth. Rounded sine-based kicks and pitched toms bubble away as a mesmerising two note progression unfurls into a beautiful, overlayed and lo-fi cut which subsides just as you want it to continue indefinitely. ‘Input//Machine’ sets its stall out immediately with heavily distorted 909 and flickering percussion joining forces with resonant synths and a fittingly austere pitch-shifted vocal. Unselfconsciously retro, it’s a moody but funk and fun filled cut destined for the dancefloor.

The Horrors man Tom Cowan dons his Tom Furse cap and delivers a detailed, respectful interpretation of ‘Airstrike’ which irons out the original’s stuttered rhythms and adds dense layers of percussion, warped synths and tension throughout.

France’s Remain (aka Romain Rouffiac) closes the EP with a remix of that balances the tracks colder aesthetics with electro-disco drums brilliantly and provides yet another essential take on Avery’s dark simplicity.

Great press reaction and amazing DJ support from all sides by:
Kim Ann Foxman, Trevor Jackson, Tiga, dfa, Horse meet Disco, Shit Robot, Chris Duckenfield, Rory Phillips, in flagranti, Laurent Garnier, Troy Pierce, Justin Robertson, Mickey Moonlight, Renaissance Man, Dr Dunks (Still Going/Rub N Tug), Sean Johnston (ALFOS/Hardway Bros) and many more…

Release Date Digital: November 18th 2011 Release Date Vinyl: December 12th 2011 Headman’s Be Loved surfaces from Relish’s recent label round up Compilation 3. The taught 808 foundation of the track is supplemented with heart swelling synth lines that unfold eventually into an upbeat electronic pop song repleat with live bass and swirling strings. Vocal duties are supplied by Rosie Blair, known to some as vocalist for Moon Unit, and one half of the duo Boy of Girl with Paul Mogg (formerly of the Psychonauts). The song steps a fine line between electro, synth pop and the electro/acoustic dualism of Wide Boy Awake. Along with a dub come two remixes. First up Andreas Esu turns in a trademark percussion driven house cut up, with a dancefloor calibrated piano breakdown. Then it is Daniel Avery’s turn to offer something much colder in aesthetic: 4×4 with bleepy arpeggio’s and cold wave saw waves. The single will also be presented with a new, Headman directed video piece.
Headman’s Be Loved surfaces from Relish’s recent label round up Compilation 3.
