Meant Records label head Remain brings his Parisian sound to Relish Recordings.
„Insame“ culls together a number of influences from disco to techno to funk and condenses them into six minutes of grinding, slo-mo stomp. Remain’s signature production touches abound: the drums gnarl and bite, the claps snap and sizzle and the 303s take on a mind of their own. The addition of a pitched-down vocal snarl from Clouded Vision’s Matt Walsh seals this wicked business into the dark recesses of the dance floor consciousness.
On the second track „Dead And Gone“ sees Remain cranking up the tempo dial and riding out a driving and aggressive groove. This time the track’s modus operandi is ruthless efficiency. With tight percussion and adenoidal synth work setting the stage for menacing vocal mantras, this is the Remain sound par excellence: the groove burns through the spectrum before the smoke can clear.
Rework best known for their releases on Playhouse turn in a remix made for modern dancefloors whilst retaining lipstick traces from that golden era in which Relish was born. On a different tip, label boss Headman Reworks „Insame“ into a low slung, acidic melody and The Slow Waves turn it into a balearic summer anthem. A package to define what Relish is all about.
